If you operate an affiliate program, you’ve probably spent a lot of time thinking about how you can get new affiliates to join. If you talk to operators of established programs, however, you’ll be told often that getting affiliates to sign up for a program is only one small piece of the puzzle; a bigger challenge remains. Once an affiliate signs up for your program, how do you convert that raw affiliate potential into something productive for your company?

In Part 1 of this series, we looked at some of the “big questions” one must confront when considering an affiliate-driven promotional strategy. In Part 2, we pick up with an examination of the lynchpin of success, not just for affiliate programs, but for their affiliates, as well. I’m speaking, of course, of traffic. Traffic is such a rich area of discussion that this article will only deal with a few major traffic categories, with more to follow in Part 3 of this series.

Speaking with Julien Jegard is easy over ICQ, but in person you can sense he’s self-conscious about his English. He was born and lives in France and he looks sort of like the young wizard Harry Potter – a tall, lean frame and shaggy brown hair, but with the lightning bolt scar noticeably absent from his face. When you speak with him you can sense his passion for the adult industry and you get the impression that he, like Potter, is destined for great things. Together with his business partner, Johan, they’ve recently launched a new program, NeoSexCash.com, and it seems quite possible that the program may just be that great thing that he is destined to do.

As with any business, the affiliate game takes some planning to effectively mount a traffic campaign that is going to take unique hits and turn them into conversions. A conversion is when a surfer hits that buy button, scoring a sale for your sponsor and of course, a commission for you. One of the most powerful and flexible tools of the trade is the "Free Hosted Galleries," often referred to as FHGs.
